We conducted interviews with the current DP 1 students (cohort 2025) to see what they think about CAS, what they have chosen as their CAS Project and how difficult they think it will be. We have done this with the goal of them being interviewed again after completing the DP to see if their expectations and fears of CAS held true. We have done this to help out the future students coming into the DP, to help them in how to manage to successfully and stress-free complete CAS whilst doing the programme.
The goal of these interviews is to show the different perspectives of the students: some feel worried, others less. Everyone has different perspectives and through these interviews we want to include the different perspectives of students so that all can feel they can relate to and hopefully learn from their subsequent interview so that they don't have to face the same problems if such occur.

Arshia's experience
"For students, by students and of students"
Her CAS Project is related to upcycling clothing and donating the earning to charity. She is doing this alsongside three of her classmates. The goal of upcycling these clothes is to first turn them into usable garments and selling them. Then the earnings will be donated to a charity of the girl's school "Sri Kanthamathi Ambal Girls Higher Secondary School" in India.
A concern of hers relating to the completion of the project is that they might not be able to reach their goal on time. To resolve this problem she thinks that successfully promoting the project will be very important, so that others join in to help, so that the goal is met. Their goal is to upcylce at least 15 garments.
A great motivation for her to do this is that during her research she realized that people throw out a lot of clothing that could potentially be used. This has strong negative impacts on the environment and by upcycling she aims to both deacrease the amount of waste and give a second life to these garments.
Feel free to contact her about the project: [email protected]

Simun's experience
For their CAS Project, Simun and Hiske are producing 2 editions of the school newspaper with the current name, "The Deep Edge". The newspaper they make will be made up of articles written by students from MYP1-3, teachers and even themselves. They are having meetings with a group of students from MYP1-3 to explore further contribution to the newspaper. They want to use this as an opportunity to incentivize the students to write about their interests while improving their own writing skills. The articles will be educational and entertaining. They will contain tips for the CAS Project, the Extended Essay, how to survive MYP and many others. The young students also have ideas to write about space and climate change and have already drafted an article with tips on how you can help prevent climate change. He thinks that Hiske and him might encounter some difficulties with working with the young students since it can be a difficult task to keep them serious and focused, and for them to even show up to their writing meetings. To tackle this problem, they are getting the supervision of Mrs. Van Nielen to guide them on how to better teach the children and how to more successfully communicate with them. The motivation for him to do this came from wanting to restart the school newspaper and write more interesting and relevant stories. They are now close to finishing their first edition and will have both physical and digital copies of it. Feel free to contact him: [email protected] |
